The Countryman Press has a long history as an independent publisher. Now owned by W. W. Norton and Company, Inc., Countryman and its books continue to grow both in scope and number.
Today we are publishing beautiful healthy-living cookbooks and guides to everything from mixing drinks and baking dump cakes to hiking Vermont’s hills and valleys. We continue to build our flagship Explorer’s Guide travel series, and are actively pursuing the subjects of nature, country-living manuals, narrative non-fiction, fitness and exercise, reference, pets, and humor. Most of our books are illustrated and full color with high-production values.
Our series guides include Countryman Know-How (basic skills for self-sufficiency such as Preserving Everything and Jerky Everything), Best Ever (inexpensive cookbooks on one topic, such as Best Green Drinks Ever and Best Dollar Saving Dinners), and our signature travel guides, including the Explorer’s Guides, Backroads & Byways, and 50 Hikes.
We publish works that inspire, entertain, and teach—though likely not all at the same time. The best way to learn about The Countryman Press is by browsing our site or checking us out in your local bookstore. If you are looking for something in particular but don’t see it in our catalog, please let us know. We are always looking for great new ideas.
Founded in Taftsville, Vermont, in 1973, The Countryman Press enjoys both critical and customer acclaim. Countryman is an imprint of W. W. Norton & Company, Inc., the nation’s largest independent, employee-owned book publishing house.
